According to a study, those who have had Covid-19 are more likely than non-infected individuals to get gastrointestinal (GI) diseases within a year of the infection, including liver issues, acute pancreatitis, irritable bowel syndrome, acid reflux, and ulcers. Moreover, there is a higher chance of constipation, diarrhoea, stomach pain, bloating, and vomiting in Covid-infected individuals.

Clinical epidemiologist at Washington University and lead author Ziyad Al-Aly stated that digestive issues were among the first ones that patients reported. It is becoming more and more obvious that the Gastrointestinal tract acts as a virus reservoir.

The mouth, throat, oesophagus, stomach, small and large intestines, rectum, and anus, as well as organs like the liver and gallbladder, are all parts of the gastrointestinal system.
